Hey guys, thanks for checking in!
The purpose of the ‘years of purpose’ blog is to connect you with the adventures that Alex and I get to experience as we ship across the country to tackle life together in New York.
Houghton College (pronounced with a hard ‘O’, like in ‘oat’) is a little bitty Christian Liberal Arts college tucked away in the most forgotten parts of upstate New York. In my mind, ‘ a perfect place to get down and dirty for a few years of really hard work becoming the best musician I can be.
Alex and I have only been to Houghton one time, and that was for my interview – the whole trip lasted only 20 hours! We fell in love with the location and the college, and, although I was a bit more skeptical, Alex knew right away that this was where we were going.
We hope to post at least twice a week (one from my point of view, and one from hers). This will give us a chance to keep all you friends and family up-to-date with our musings, and hopefully our story of being WAY out of our comfort zone can speak to other young-and-marrieds out there, or anyone who is on their own journey away from the comfortable parts of life.
Some of our posts will be really practical, with information about what we’re doing and pictures of our new world on the other side of the continent. Other posts will be just for fun, maybe with musings about faith, family, or anything else we think of!
It may seem a bit strange to you that we’re starting a blog about our life in Houghton before we even get there. We decided to start now because we really want to frame our thoughts around the idea that these are “years of purpose.” We like to think that we are being really intentional with these years of our life, making a choice to actively push our skills, our family, and our faith by stepping out of our comfort zone and seeking the will of God for our lives. And what better way to celebrate the beginning of these years than with our anniversary, which is tomorrow!
If you’d like to stay up-to-date with the “yearsofpurpose” blog, you can hit subscribe on the bottom of this page (I think, if it’s not down there it’ll be somewhere). We’ll also throw occasional updates on Facebook when we put up new posts, but we don’t want to be obnoxious so we won’t post every time.
Leave us a comment down at the bottom from time to time! Also, if you have questions about what we’re doing we’d love to hear your ideas for a fun blog post.
